First of all, can you introduce yourself?

Hello, I am Buse, I was born in 1993 in Istanbul. My adventure with ceramics first started in 2012 when I entered the ceramics department. I graduated from Trakya University Ceramics and Glass Department with first place. Right after my graduation, I had the opportunity to work with my dear teacher Mehmet Kabaş, a respected artist and masters who did important work in his field. During this working process, I also took 2 years of jewelry design training from him. In addition to the experiences I gained from the workshops I worked at, I continued to complete many trainings in my field in this process. Afterwards, there was a period when I taught ceramics and tiles in official institutions. Currently, I continue on my way with my own brand Jecmuse...

Can you share with us the story of the emergence of your brand?

Ceramics has always been a passion for me since the first day I met. Mud is a material that I find myself, that I think educates me in every sense, that inspires me and that I respect. When I first launched my Jecmuse brand, I started off with my team training. For a while, I produced jewelry of my own design. But ceramics always outweighed me. In the period when I started teaching ceramics, I was in the decision to turn to my own business based on the products I designed. The pandemic process has helped me turn this into an opportunity. With all my courage and experience, I decided to walk with my Jecmuse brand on the path that is my main profession and dream.

Are there any artists who inspire your designs? If yes, who are the ones that affect you the most?

In fact, there are many artists in different fields whose work I admire, but the points I get inspired by can be very variable. For that moment, I can be influenced by an artist's work, a painting, a historical work or an architectural structure...

Could you briefly inform us about the emergence and production processes of your designs?

I mainly work on smooth lines and rounded forms. I like to use vibrant colors with these forms. After the form emerges in the design process, I proceed through the color choices. In this way, each object has a soul of its own. Sometimes the model that I set in my head and start by imagining can evolve into something completely different on the way. A part of the product I designed can turn into a part that completes my next model. Although they look different in themselves, they are actually a whole of each other.
Building a model can take long hours and days. Ceramic has a multi-stage production process. Mud is a material that looks easy but is actually difficult. It is necessary to know and understand the language well, and to master the techniques of the job. I usually combine different techniques in my work. Each model has different traces within itself when you look at it. This is my favorite and most exciting aspect of this job.

How do you ensure to be original in a production and consumption cycle where everything is the same?

I think that researching, following different branches of art, being open to innovations and experiencing are important in keeping creativity up to date in the design process.

What is the most important thing that makes your brand different from others?

It can be to bring together delightful designs in an artistic and functional way.

Jecmuse is a brand where everyone can find something for themselves, as well as striking forms and colors.

What would be your advice to young designers who want to establish their own local brand?

As in every sector, ceramics also has difficulties.

Based on my own experience, I can say; It's important to develop multiple skills in every aspect of your business.

I think it is possible to achieve success on the path you dream of, as long as you work and produce with pleasure…
