I am Buse Arca, I was born in Istanbul in 1993. I graduated from Trakya University, Department of Ceramics and Glass.
Could you share your brand's story with us? How did you start and what was your journey to get your brand to where it is today?I have always been interested in design and art. My ceramics adventure started with university. I was introduced to the magical world of ceramics at that time and it became a passion for me. After university, I had the opportunity to work with masters and artists in their fields for a long time. In addition, I also received jewelry and jewelery design training. Since I have always enjoyed creating, I designed my own jewelry for a while. Jecmuse emerged during this period. During this period, I was also continuing to do ceramic-related work. Ceramics always had a special place for me and always had a greater importance in me. Ceramics is a field in which I can dream a lot... Since I enjoy designing and producing in this field, I decided to walk this path with my Jecmuse brand.
What are the sources of inspiration for your ceramic designs? What are the factors that shape your designs?
I like to use soft lines and geometric forms found in nature itself. In fact, every piece I design becomes my biggest source of inspiration for the next piece.
Could you give us information about the techniques or methods you frequently use in your designs? What is your process for choosing these techniques?
Ceramics has a multi-stage production process. Making a model can require long hours and days. I shape the first main model of my designs by hand or on a lathe. Afterwards, I prepare the molds of the forms and use the casting technique. This way, I can create a model with the same dimensions every time. Of course, the techniques I use may vary depending on the model I have made. I can make a part of a model using the casting technique and shape the remaining part by hand. I don't work based on a single technique.
What are the unique features of your products? What are the elements that make your brand different from others?
There are models in my designs that can be used both as a decorative object and as a vase. Each design has an integrity within itself. I try to capture this integrity in both forms and colors, which makes each one unique. Integrity is also ensured in the environment used.
Would you like to talk about the color palette you use in your designs? What is your thought process for your color choices?
I like to use vibrant and bright colors. During the design process, after the form emerges, I proceed with color selections. In this way, each object has its own character.
What does being a local designer mean to you? What do you find difficult or like about it?
As a local designer, I take care to design and produce creative, artistic products that will make people feel special. Recently, people have become bored with the sameness and started to look for differences and show interest in local designers and brands. I'm getting very good feedback and this interest makes me happy...
Of course, the work we do has its challenges. We are trying to exist alongside serial and ready-made consumer products and we are making more efforts to show ourselves. But I think the value of local producers and brands will gradually increase.
