Cemre Akcal
Born in Bartın in 1999, Cemre Akçal moved to Istanbul for university and has lived here ever since. The artist, who first encountered photography when she was just 14 or 15, prefers to think and express herself through images rather than words. For her, photography is a way to make sense of the world, capture emotions, and bear silent witness to time.
Rather than searching for a specific subject, her work draws inspiration from the coincidences she encounters in everyday life. Images that emerge during a walk, on the side of the road, or in the silence of a forgotten object become emotional traces that remain etched in the artist's memory. Abandoned spaces, ordinary objects, and invisible moments serve as both an escape and a form of remembrance.
The artist, who prioritizes not directing the viewer but constructing meaning together, often leaves his photographs unexplained. This approach allows space for the emotion to speak for itself and for each viewer to find their own story within the photographs.
