“Sheymy came from a lineage that was thought to be aristocratic throughout their lineage, but her ancestors were not noble at all; so her mother and father could only attend the big socialite balls on Monguriyet Street, while her little brother always stayed in secret corners. Sheymy silently carried her brother’s shadow as she walked among the jeweled capes; at each invitation, she would show off her elegance on the one hand, and on the other, she would do her best not to let anyone notice the ‘unseen truth’.”

This mask game reveals the gap between an identity that seems flawless from the outside and its inner history. This story, where the family legacy is set up like a theater stage, actually whispers how “real belonging” is covered up by oppression; how the pursuit of status can make even those closest to us invisible. Thus, we encounter an existential question: While running away from our own shadow, which costume does our true self hide behind?

The Mongs are a silent utopia where colors speak instead of words, each composed of color-blind individuals whispering their inner search. The tension between belonging and alienation, freedom and commitment, loneliness and collective harmony creates sweet conflicts, giving birth to a new perspective each time. There is no absolute truth here; each Mong reconstructs the truth with their own filter.
